hanae mori hanky purse

introducing, one of my early craft projects, circa 2004.. this hanky purse made from hankerchief, my mom's to be exact. she's a old fashioned gal, prefer hanky over kleenex :) and i loooove her hanky collections. this hanky became mine accidentally. i was borrowing the hanky for a luncheon with my gals, it's hanae mori with japs flowers and sky line as you can see.. the hanky was beautiful, soft and one of my favourites! my mom never object my addiction in borrowing her hanky, but she always remind me to take care and cleaning after i use them. i have always did, until i realize that the hanae mori stuck in the zipper of my purse, and i unpatiently tried to wiggle it to free the hanky. but the result, i made a small but long tear on the hanky. :( i told my mom immediately after i got home, and since there's nothing you can do to mend the hanky (it's so obvious if you try to stitch it back) she gave it to me. my eyes lit up because i saw the revelation : this beauty can not die just like that.

long story short, a few snips, beads sewing, putting the batting, sew a bit in here and there, i got my very first handmade purse. and i wear it a lot because people comments how beautiful it is and i got to tell the story about "how i rescued the hanky" again and again. oh yeah, my mom borrow it twice.. :)

the flowers that made me fall in love with this hanky.. the beads make them look like alive..
