feeling better than yesterday, i feel cheerful and ready to rumble.. and today, i cooked a simple meal, beef tongseng as requested by abenk the other day. i am not a big fan of red meat dish, so i have no idea how tongseng should look like or taste like :-p but thanks to internet, i got heaps of tongseng recipe.. so, here it is my recipe of beef tongseng (actually it was for lamb, but beef is all i have).
ingredients:
- 400gr of beef meat, cut into small slices
- 4 cloves of garlic, chop thinly*
- 3 cloves of small red onion, chop thinly*
- 4 chili, chop thinly*
- 3 candle nuts, crushed until smooth
- 1 lemongrass stick
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tomato, cut into 8
- margarine
- ground white pepper
- sweet soy sauce
- salt
- water
-1 cup of sliced cabbage
- fried onion
* means i prefer crushed it with ulekan.
instruction:
in a wok, heat up margarine and saute chopped garlic and onion until brownish and fragrant, add chopped chili and lemongrass, continue to saute for another 1 minute. add the meat and cook until change of color, stir occasionally. add candle nuts, pepper, salt and sweet soy sauce. mix it well. add lime juice and water as much as needed. adjust the taste with salt, pepper and sweet soy sauce. continue to cook until the meat tender. add tomato and cabbage prior to serve.
to serve, pour the beef tongseng into a bowl, sprinkle some fried onion. perfect with steamy rice and (kerupuk). if you like it hot, you can add more sambal.
